For this blog post, you’ll be joining the Roger la Borde team for our annual Christmas lunch! It’s great fun when my day-to-day life as Creative Director of Roger la Borde overlaps with what we do here on Jenni’s Table.
While many of our posts feature decorating ideas and vignettes we’ve styled up for you, this post features a real party in action, complete with table decorations, food and drinks…and friends! For our party of 15, I kept things simple and colourful. With a magenta table runner as a backdrop, I added clusters of pink and white flowerheads and sprigs of festive red berries. Lots of tall candles and brightly coloured glassware made the table feel rich and warm, while a handful of sparkling Christmas tree ornaments sealed the deal.
Above: A rainbow of multicoloured acrylic champagne flutes for pre-lunch bubbles (or elderflower cordial). The glasses brightened up the table when we moved from drinks to lunch.
Below: the food! To keep things unfussy and informal for our big group, we laid out platters for everyone to serve themselves. There was lots of wonderful homemade yumminess: Quails’ eggs and celery salt, shrimp and smoked salmon with dill and Harissa Mayo, beautiful breads and deep red beets to start. Stuffed aubergines, roast beef, root veggies, vibrant and crunchy salads for main. For dessert, mini Christmas puds, Pavlova served with poached stone fruit on top, and de-tubbed pints of ice-cream served piled up like creamy sandcastles! (The most fun way to serve ice-cream, surely?!)
After our meal, we tackled the huge pile of Secret Santa pressents – all wrapped in Roger la Borde paper, of course! More drinks, cake, cheese and games to follow. A wonderful end to a wonderful year with friends and colleagues.
This will be our last full blog post before the 25th, so we’d like to wish a very Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate, and a peaceful and joyful December to all.
